Car Fire Snarls Traffic on I-95

Man suffers burns in crash near stadium complex

A car fire temporarily shot down both directions of I-95 in South Philadelphia near the stadiums Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 4:40 on the southbound side south of Packer Avenue, according to PennDOT.

Crews quickly rushed to the scene to put out the fire. Due to thick smoke both directions of the road were closed for a short while.

A man in his 30s was taken to the hospital after suffering burns.

Just before 5:10 p.m. the crash was partially cleared and both sides of the road were reopened but the traffic jam continued as only one lane got by in the southbound direction, PennDOT said.

Investigators were looking into a possible cause.
