An arrest has been made in a hit-and-run that injured an 11-year-old girl.
Police say the girl was walking on the 700 block of North Haddon Avenue in Haddonfield, N.J. shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
The girl was taken to Cooper University Hospital's Trauma Unit with serious injuries to her head and leg. She remained in stable condition Wednesday.
After analyzing evidence left at the scene, police identified the hit-and-run vehicle as a Gray/Silver mid-late 90s 4-door Mercury. That led them to the alleged driver Barbara Messerschmidt of Barrington, N.J.
Detectives say Messerschmidt, 69, confessed Tuesday night.
According to investigators, Messerschmidt told police she was driving her car southbound on Haddon Avenue when she was unable to stop before striking the girl.
Police say she admitted that she panicked and fled the scene without stopping to help the victim.

Messerschmidt is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury and leaving an endangered victim.
