Man, 89, Accidentally Runs Over Wife, Daughter: Cops

A 89-year-old man allegedly ran over his wife and their daughter, 62, in the driveway of their home on Monday morning.

The whole incident appeared to be a terrible accident, cops and witnesses said.

It happened around 9:30 in the 500 block of Harrington Road in Havertown, Delaware County, Pa., when the elderly man was preparing to back out of the driveway, police said.

His 85-year-old wife was being helped into the car by the couple's daughter when the man accidentally stepped on the accelerator while the car was still in reverse, according to Haverford Township Police.

Both women were knocked down causing each to be hospitalized, cops said.

The daughter was airlifted to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania suffering from head and chest trauma, police said.

Her mother was rushed to HUP by ambulance with "moderate to severe" injuries to her lower torso, cops said.

The accident is under investigation. The driver was not charged.
