Store Owner Killed During Robbery Attempt

A hardworking store owner trying to fight back as two men trying to rob his store was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon at a Delaware County convenience store, police said.

The shooting happened a little before 5 p.m. at 535 MacDade Boulevard in Collingdale, Pa., authorities on the scene said.

Yogesh Bhavsar of Delaware was shot once in the chest after apparently resisting the would-be robbers. The alleged robbers then fled the scene.

Police were looking at surveillance video taken from the store. It’s unclear if the attempted robbers made off with anything from the store. The register and cash were strewn across the ground.

Cops detained what they were calling two "people of interest" in the case but the men were later released, authorities said.

Bhavsar, who friends called Yogi, worked seven days a week. Yogi was remembered for his generosity to the community.

"He would do anything for me," said store employee Joe Scheidly. "He would loan me money if I needed a mortgage payment."

"When I was short-changed and couldn’t get bread, I could go to him and he said, 'don’t worry about it,'" said neighbor Carole Middleton.
