Crews rushed to a Philadelphia street after the decorative façade of a building collapsed onto the street below this morning.
The collapse happened around 4:15 a.m. along the 900 block of Race Street in the Center City’s Chinatown section.
A brightly-colored artistic tree was attached to the north side of the four-story building. It fell off the side of the building and onto the Race Street sidewalk and street.
There were no immediate reports of injuries but authorities did evacuate some people from the apartments located inside the building. Marco Polo Pizza is located on the ground floor of the building.
Firefighters taped off part of the sidewalk and street.
It's unclear how long it might take to cleanup the mess of ceramic and plaster.
Police allowed residents back into their homes and traffic moved past the scene about an hour after the collapse as crews checked gas lines and the sidewalk below.
Licenses and Inspections would determine what caused the artwork to fall. No structural damage was done to the building.
