Cheyney University spent a few hours this morning in a state of heightened alert after receiving a Columbine-type threat via Twitter, but they're telling us this afternoon that there is no longer a threat.
The university's interim vice president for institutional advancement, Larry Green, tells NBC10 that they are questioning a person of interest -- possibly a student.
The school, located in Delaware County, did not put out details of the threat, but according to Philly.com, this morning's Twitter message was a threat to "pull a re-enactment of Columbine and Virginia Tech at Cheyney University."
Cheyney issued a "BREAKING CAMPUS NEWS" statement on Friday morning, which they also posted on their Facebook page. It said the campus community had been notified as well as police and other officials. The following measures were put in place in response to the threat:
- A police officer is stationed at the roads onto the campus to screen incoming cars
- Additional officers are being brought onto campus
- The District Attorney and officials with the PASSHE (the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education) have also been notified.
