Man Shot in Chester Hours After State of Emergency Lifted

A man was shot in Chester, Pa. Friday afternoon -- just hours after the city’s mayor and other officials lifted a state of emergency.

Reports of a shooting on the 1100 block of W Union Street came to light around 1.

"I heard about three shots," said witness Patricia Jackson.

Details remained limited and the condition of the victim wasn’t immediately known but it was revealed that he was truck once in the back.

Chester’s state of emergency was lifted at 6 a.m. Friday.

The emergency plan including curfews and more police in certain areas was instituted after a slew of deadly shootings last month.

"It's an all-out effort to address the violence that is happening on my streets," mayor Wendell Butler Jr. said at the time. "So as you'll see, I canceled all the leaves, all personal days. It's all hands on deck."

The plan seemed to work and was heralded as a success despite not being perfect. It isn’t clear if this shooting will cause some initiatives to be put back in place.
