Propane Explosion Leaves Boy Dead, Dad Injured

Explosion shot flames 100 feet into the air: witnesses

A propane explosion in Nazareth, Pa. left a 12-year-old boy dead and his father with severe burns, said authorities.

The explosion happened just after noon Monday at the Cherry Hill Christmas Tree Farm on Creamery Road in Bushkill Township, said police.

Flames from the explosion shot up to 100 feet in the air, witnesses told cops.

Luke Hahn from Pen Argyl, Pa. was found dead at the scene, said the Northampton Count Coroner’s Office.

The AP reported that the boy accidentally backed a dump truck into the cap of an underground propane tank.

The father and son were doing some landscaping on the farm when the truck hit a valve sticking up out of the ground that led to an underground propane tank, Investigators said.

Earlier Bushkill Township Police said a man, not believed to have been in the truck, caught fire from the explosion. He reportedly jumped into a nearby pool to put out the flames, witnesses told police.
