Boyfriend of Murdered Pottstown Mom Arrested

Edwin Carrero was apprehended in Florida.

The man accused of strangling a Pottstown mother last week was tracked down in Florida early this morning in a casino parking lot, inside the victim's car.

Edwin Carrero was arrested for the murder of Alicia Schmidt, 31. Carrero's ex-wife told police last week that he called her on the morning of his girlfriend's murder and admitted he "may have killed Alicia," according to a press release from the Montgomery County District Attorney.

Carrero's ex-wife said he told her that "he choked Alicia and pushed her down the steps of the basement."

That's where Schmidt's body was found last Thursday morning, in the home she and Carrero shared on Cherry Street in Pottstown, Pa. Her two children, ages seven and 12, were found unharmed in their second floor bedrooms.

At 2:10 a.m. today, a police officer found Carrero, 32, in the parking garage for the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Carrero was inside Schmidt's car, police said. Carrero is in the Broward County Jail awaiting extradition to Montgomery County, Pa.
