Dog Dispute Between Neighbors Leaves 1 Dead

Cops take man into custody after he allegedly opened fire on his neighbors

A man was killed after a dispute between neighbors erupted into gunfire in Berks County Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the shootings happened around 2:30 p.m. on the 3400 block of Rosedale Avenue in Laureldale, Pa. -- just north of Reading, Pa.

Police say Robert Goda, 64, and Bruce Muth, 49, were involved in an ongoing dispute regarding Goda's dog. Muth allegedly confronted Goda on his porch and shot him. Goda was pronounced dead at the scene.

After hearing the shooting, police say Irvin Ojea, a 51-year-old handyman working in the area, found Goda's dog walking up Park Place. He took the dog and walked it back to Goda's home when he was shot by Muth, according to investigators.

Investigators say Muth then went back to his house and surrendered to police who took him into custody without incident.

Ojea was taken to Reading Hospital. His condition has not yet been revealed.

Police closed off Elizabeth Avenue near Kutztown Road during the investigation, reported the Reading Eagle.
