Gas Main Struck on White Horse Pike

No one hurt after workers doing repairs hit gas main in Barrington, NJ

A portion of the White Horse Pike was shut down Wednesday morning after a gas main was struck below I-295 in Barrington, N.J.

It happened around 10 a.m. when two contractors were working on the sidewalk under the I-295 overpass as part of the final touches of an $80-million rehabilitation project, a spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Transportation told NBC10.

During the corrective repairs a gas main was struck, transportation officials said.

As gas crews worked to repair the impacted gas main, officers were called to the scene to direct traffic.

Chopper10 arrived on the scene around 10:35 a.m. to find crews working on the eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 30 and traffic in both directions being diverted.

Around 11:30 a.m. all the westbound lanes on Route 30 were reopened while one lane eastbound remained closed, according to the Department of Transportation.

The DOT spokesman says the closure of the lane could last two to three more hours.

Around 2:30 p.m. the repairs were finished and the roadway was reopened, according to PSE&G.

The utility tells NBC10 that service was never affected.

No one was injured.
