Barber “Assassinated” in His Shop

Police say a robbery inside an Upper Darby barbershop may have been just a front for a hit because the barber was shot execution style

A barber, identified as Michael Turner, 35, was shot to death inside his Upper Darby shop on Wednesday during a robbery. But police say that robbery may have been a front for a hit on the barber.

"We believe the way the holdup man was dressed and the point-blank range of the shot, we believe this was a hit, an assassination," says Upper Darby Police Superintendent Mike Chitwood.

At around 2 p.m., a gunman came into the Modern Hair Designs Barber Shop at 8 Copley Road. That's right next to 69th Street Terminal. Four people, including the barber, were inside the shop. The gunman walked in, said it was a holdup and ordered everyone to hit the floor.

He demanded money and the barber gave it to him, police say. The gunman shot the barber anyway, execution style. Police say the gunman was dressed in dark clothing and had his face covered so that only his eyes and nose were showing.
