Shooting Leaves Armored Car Guard, Teen Wounded

Armored guard changing an ATM is shot in the head, cops say

A hail of gunfire Thursday night left an armed guard shot in the head and a teenager shot multiple times, Philadelphia Police said.

The shootout happened around 7:30 inside and outside a corner store at N 9th and W Clearfield Streets in North Philadelphia.

Originally it appeared the shootout occurred during an attempted armored car robbery but instead it seems the injured guard was simply in the wrong place at the wrong timem according to police.

A 17-year-old was shot four times in the back and arm before he ran into nearby Ledesma Grocery for help, police said.

He was taken to Temple Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

At the same time the armored guard was changing money at an ATM in the store and was struck in the head, cops said.

"It just so happened that the armored car guard happened to be in the grocery store at the time the 17-year-old male got shot outside and ran inside," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The guard was taken to Temple Hospital in critical condition but was expected to be OK, cops said.

It's unclear how many shooters there were and the search for the shooter(s) continued, police said.

Neighbors claimed gunfire erupted in the same area just two weeks before.
