Alleged High-Rise Robber Nabbed

Man allegedly targeted women in various attacks

Police have arrested a man they believe mugged and stole a few bucks from a 93-year-old woman in a Center City high-rise building.

And, it appears that the suspect and his accomplice are responsible for even more Monday muggings and robberies in the city.

Police nabbed 48-year-old Michael Crump on Monday after he was allegedly caught taking a woman’s wallet from her purse on a SEPTA bus while it was traveling along N 6th Street near Erie Ave. in North Philly.

The woman saw two men take her wallet from her purse around 11 a.m. She then followed the men and called police.

Police caught up to one of the men, identified as Crump, in the 3400 block of N 8th Street around 11:20 in the morning. The other guy got away on foot.

Crump faces criminal conspiracy and theft for bus theft.

Once he was in custody police also charged Crump with the robbery of the elderly woman inside the elevator in 1500 Locust Apartments and robbing a woman pushing a baby stroller along the 1500 block of Chestnut Street.

The elderly woman explained what happened as she "fought like hell" after the alleged robber rifled through her purse.

"He opens the door, kicks me, throws me out so I land on my backside spread eagle on the floor and he takes off," she said.

The High-rise attack left the elderly woman with bruises and a broken finger that required a brief hospital stay, she told NBC Philadelphia's Denise Nakano.

It wasn’t clear if Crump is suspected of any other incidents. On Monday police said that two well-dressed men were wanted in four separate robberies -- two of those were the incidents Crump is alleged of having perpetrated.
