Robbers Put Gun to Clerk's Head

Robbers, at least one wearing a mask, put a gun to the head of a convenience store clerk working the overnight shift early this morning.

The men, one with a gun, entered the 7-Eleven store at 2981 Welsh Road in the Holme Circle section of Northeast Philadelphia around 4:30 a.m. and demanded money.

"The suspects approached the clerk and put a gun to his head, then struck the clerk in the back of his head knocking him to the ground," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. "AT this time the perpetrators then tied the wrists of the clerk behind his back with plastic zip ties and they proceeded to ransack behind the counter."

Small says the robbers then emptied the cash register, swiped a large amount of cigarettes and ran out of the store. In total, the men spent about 10 minutes in the store, the clerk told police.

The 60-year-old clerk refused medical treatment despite having some bumps and bruises.

The clerk told police he didn't get a good look at the robbers because they told him "not to look at them."

Philadelphia Police spent the morning speaking to the visibly shaken employee and searching for clues.
