Walmart Worker Killed in Hit-and-Run

A Walmart worker was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Cheltenham Township Thursday night as she left work and headed home.

Michelle Powell, 53, was leaving the store at Cedarbrook Mall around 8 p.m. when she was hit and killed by a car. The driver fled the scene, heading west on Cheltenham Avenue and then onto Ivy Hill Road.

"She was loving. She was kind. She was giving," her sister Deborah Wisher said Friday, sobbing.

"They left her in the street like she was a piece of trash, like nobody cared about her. Like nobody loved her."

Michelle and her husband Howard have two children. "My wife, my friend, my children's mother and she's gone in a flash like that," Howard said.

Police are looking for a light-colored or gray, older model four-door car, possibly a Buick LeSabre. A witness described the driver as a black male in his 20s with bushy hair and wearing a tan jacket.

"Please turn yourself in," Wisher pleaded. "You know who you are. My family needs closure. Only you can do that."

If you have any information that can help police, you can call Cheltenham Police at 215.885.1600 ext. 777.
