It happened between 15th and 17th streets and Ben Franklin Parkway, according to investigators.
Philadelphia Police say they shot a teen in the chest after they witnessed him allegedly shooting another teen just blocks from the Welcome America Concert on July 4th.
Police say they returned fire on the teen around 9:20 p.m. after the 16-year-old shot a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old in the leg near 17th and JFK in Center City.
Officers say they chased after the teen until he pointed his gun at them. The alleged teenage shooter suffered a graze wound to his chest after police opened fire on him, police said.
All three teens were in stable condition Thursday morning, police said.
Police also say a man and a woman were assaulted with an unknown object in the same area. Investigators have not yet revealed if the shooter was the same person responsible for assaulting the man and woman. Hospital officials listed both assault victims as stable.
Investigators say the incident does not appear to be related to the Occupy National Gathering.
On Thursday, police identified the 16-year-old teen suspect as Nafis Scott. He will be charged with aggravated assault, assault on police, violation of the uniform firearms act and other related offenses.
