The Unfortunate Face of DC Baseball

Nats + Dick Cheney = Haunting Nightmares

The DC Sports Bog captured pictures of former VP Dick Cheney attending a Nationals game this past weekend, perfectly epitomizing the role of a codger. Cue the zingers about the resident Poopy Pants in Command being subjected to torture worse than the proprietors of Abu Ghraib could have imagined.

Baseball in D.C. is bad enough. Now, Cheney playing the role of grumpy ol' poster boy for Nats Town, equivalent to water-boarding being in an ad for "Hurricane Harbor" at Dan Snyder's Six Flags park, is adding insult to injury.

From disastrous plays to ground crew fails, the Nats just can't catch a break, and we're only talking about what happened en route to getting swept by Philadelphia, whose fans usurped the D.C. "faithful" to become the de facto home crowd.

Can the denizens of the District really be blamed for not supporting their team? From ownership's unwillingness to field a decent product, to the team president welcoming enemy combatants from the hostile territory of the City of Brotherly Love and its "glorious" Jersey surroundings, one might confuse Stan Kasten with Benedict Arnold.

Which begs the question, why would Cheney submit himself to the misery of Nats baseball in the first place? Is he looking for someone to make himself feel better amidst spiking criticism, or simply searching for the next victim of his "motivational" consulting services. Either way, the two seem to make strange, but appropriate bed fellows.
