The Democratic and Republican national chairmen square off on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” while members of Congress fan out on the other Sunday talk shows to mull over the torture controversy that has ensnarled House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Democratic National Chairman Tim Kaine and Republican National Chairman Michael Steele will go toe to toe with moderator David Gregory for what’s sure to be a news-making morning.
On CNN’s “State of the Union,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) will offer his take on Pelosi’s startling accusation that the CIA misled key members of Congress during briefings on the interrogation methods employed by the Bush administration after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
CNN also has Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) and White House Budget Director Peter Orszag. And later on “GPS,” former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf sits down with host Fareed Zakaria.
Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) and American Civil Liberties Union executive director Anthony Romero will take up the torture debate on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” And Sens. Jim Webb (D-Va.) and Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) will be on ABC’s “This Week,” as well as Liz Cheney, daughter of the former vice president who has been vocally defending the Bush record and attacking the new Obama administration.
“Fox News Sunday” will examine the protests at Notre Dame ahead of President Barack Obama’s visit there Sunday to deliver the university’s commencement address. The Rev. Richard McBrien, a Notre Dame professor, and the Rev. Frank Pavone, the national director of Priests for Life, will tackle the controversy with host Chris Wallace.
Additionally, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will stop by.
On C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers,” Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, will answer questions on the president’s pending Supreme Court nomination from the National Law Journal’s David Ingram and McClatchy’s David Lightman.
Finally, on Bloomberg’s “Political Capital,” host Al Hunt interviews Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. chairwoman Sheila Bair.
