Bloggers For Hire

More paid bloggers than firefighters, bartenders

Need a job? Blog about it.

More Americans make their living as bloggers than as firefighters, CEOs, bartenders or even computer programmers, making blogs the second-biggest employer in the United States.

More than 1.7 million bloggers are paid for their work, and an additional 452,000 use their blogs as their primary source of income, the Wall Street Journal reported. This means more than two million Americans are paid to splash their thoughts across the Web.

Bloggers who blab online for a living make up nearly one percent of the population, according to the WSJ -- a demographic primarily made up of well-educated males who report above-average incomes.

They make their money -- about $45,000 to $90,000 a year, on average -- through advertising dollars or blog posts they're paid to write for larger sites. Some bloggers can net more than $200,000 a year if their sites get enough clicks, the WSJ reported.

Only lawyers make up a bigger percentage of the job market -- 555,700 people make their primary income as attorneys.

About 300,000 make their living as firefighters or CEOs, and approximately 400,000 work as computer programmers.
