McCain's Daughter: GOP Doesn't Get the Internet

Those kids and their Interwebs!

Republicans are clueless when it comes to the Internet, John McCain's daughter Meghan wrote in an op-ed published Thursday on the Daily Beast.

Members of the GOP are in denial about their disconnect from the Web and have no clue how to plug in to the tech-focused youth voting group, McCain wrote in her piece, "Why Republicans Don't Get the Internet."

"Republicans aren't exactly Internet-savvy," wrote McCain, who runs her own blog, www.mccainblogette.com.

"Until the Republican Party joins the 21st century and learns how to use the Internet, its members will keep getting older and the youth of America will just keep logging onto the other side," McCain wrote.

President Barack Obama's 2008 campaign used massive amounts of Internet-based coverage to target voters, raise funds and stump from the platform.

John McCain's campaign used the Web, too - but it was unable to match the online publicity storm created by Obama supporters.

Meghan McCain said the primary Republican mistake is underestimating the power of the Web.

"The Obama administration understands that my generation spends most of its day on a laptop or a BlackBerry, and that using the Web is an easy way to communicate their ideas to their constituents," McCain wrote.

The senator's daughter also said that many "old-school" Republicans have no clue how the Internet itself works - and that some GOP members weren't even sure what a "blog" was.
