Tragedy hit the hardwood as an elderly fan died during the night session NCAA tournament in Miam on Friday.

The man, who was in his 70s, passed out just before tip off at the American Airlines Arena and was later pronounced dead, Miami Fire Rescue officials said.

The unidentified man was watching the pre-game warm up of the Utah Utes and Arizona Wildcats when he passed out about 20 rows away from the court. Nearby fans rushed to help the man, but he was non-responsive to CPR and other efforts to revive him.

Emergency personnel wheeled the man out just before the game started.

He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
