Move over Emily -- America has a new favorite name for a baby girl.
Emma topped the list for favorite girl's name this year, ending Emily's 12-year reign, according to newly released government data. Jacob held on to its No. 1 spot on the boys' list for the 10th year in a row.
The annual rankings, compiled by the Social Security Administration, saw several newcomers this year: Alexander took the No. 6 spot on the boys' list and Chloe came in at No. 10 on the girls' list.
The U.S. had more than 4.2 million births in 2008, according to the agency.
Emma, which came in third last year and has finished in the top-five for the past seven years, is based on the German word "ermen," which can mean "strong" or "complete." Jacob is a Biblical name referring to the son of Isaac.
