The Washington Times announced plans Monday to run an entire page written and reported by unpaid, nonprofessional journalists.
The work from "citizen journalists" will run in the paper's A section six days a week.
The project comes as newspapers across the country face a steep decline in print and advertising revenue.
Executive editor John Solomon describes the citizen journalists' work as a complement to the newspaper's paid staff, saying the Times is "excited to empower citizens."

The citizen journalists will get rules and ethics guidlines from the Times. Story topics will range from education to the military to public service.
The paper's citizen journalism project is set to debut April 20.
