Brides-to-be who have served in the U.S. military in Iraq or Afghanistan or have a fiance who has served can get their wedding gowns for free.

In Manhattan, bridal boutique Bridal Reflections is giving away 100 gowns, which cost anywhere from $1,500 to $5,000, to lucky local brides-to-be who can prove their or their betrothed's service to country.

The NYC store is giving the gowns away to celebrate their 35th year of business, but it's also part of a nationwide effort to recognize the sacrifices of veterans. Qualifying brides can register online at Brides Across America until July 12th to receive a gown for their wedding.

"I thought a free gown would mean something large and purple, but these are beautiful," gushed Stacey Robertson as she explored at her options at the Fifth Avenue shop.

Robertson, a California transplant now living at Ft. Drum in upstate New York, is engaged to an Army pilot currently in Iraq. Bride-to-be Danielle Kamensky of Ringoes, N.J., is a Lt. Commander in the Navy.

"I'll probably have a gown I couldn't have afforded," said Kamensky.

"We find out what type of gown the bride is interested in and we set up a private appointment," said Christina Demarco, Bridal Reflection's general manager. Alterations are on the house, and the gowns are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The show of support has also helped to take out some of the sting of planning a wedding alone.

"When I started planning by myself it was a little bit sad. It"s not too much fun being the only one picking out what to eat. It's not like I don't know what he likes to eat, but those are things you want to have special with someone," said Alexis Beninson. "But this makes it a lot easier. This is one appointment I knew that he wasn’t coming to, but it’s OK to do by myself."
