15-Year-Old Skateboarder Hit by Car in Middle Township

Investigators say the driver hit the teen on US 9 after he tried to pass another car in front of him

Middle Township Police say a 15-year-old skateboarder was seriously injured after being hit by a car Sunday.

It happened at 12:50 a.m. on US 9, in the Mayville section of the Township. Police say the driver, 19-year-old Samuel Caraballo, III, was driving southbound in a 1998 Nissan Maxima when he crossed into the northbound lane to pass another car. Investigators say Caraballo hit the teen - who was riding a skateboard - left the roadway and then struck a utility pole.

The 15-year-old was flown to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center City Division and is listed in critical condition. 

Caraballo was not injured. Police say that Caraballo’s driver’s license was suspended. He was charged with Causing Serious Bodily Injury During a Motor Vehicle Accident While Driving While Suspended and other related charges.

Police are still investigating the accident.
