Wawa Welcome America's Epic Music Finale

It rained and and right in the middle of the O'Jays energetic performance Give the People What They Want, it poured.

Fans who'd huddled under umbrellas and tents stuck it out.

"Ya'll don't feel the rain, do you?" Eddie Levert yelled out.

This year's Wawa Welcome America! 4th of July concert showcased The Sound of Philadelphia with a tribute to Philly music legends Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.

The O'Jays, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes performed along with The Intruders.

The concert, which was billed this year as more family friendly, started with some younger talent with connections to Philadelphia -- Leslie Odom, Jr., Yazz the Greatest. The Philly group Brotherly Love joined Viva Mas to kicked off the night singing The Star Spangled Banner, a capella.

Yazz dedicated Chasing the Sky to Prince, gave a shout out to all the single ladies and ended his performance with an ask: "Do not vote for Donald Trump, okay?"

Leon Bridges, the 26-year-old "old soul" from Texas headlined the night with a raw and soulful performance of River.

Philly POPS canceled due to the rain.They were supposed to close out the night, performing with Allison Blackwell and Justin Hopkins.

Fireworks are set to go off as scheduled at 10 p.m. and will be broadcast live and livestreamed on NBC10 and NBC10.com

A town crier, the 18th Century version of Facebook, kicked off the Independence Day Parade in Old City Philadelphia.

During Monday’s Celebration of Freedom Ceremony at Independence Mall, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney honored Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff for their “Sound of Philadelphia.”
