The Poconos might still be known for snow but a new water park looks to make it as much about water as snow.
Ground was broken earlier this week in eastern Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains for an indoor water park, hotel and convention center that officials say will bring about 1,500 jobs to the region.
Gov. Tom Corbett and local officials were among about 200 people taking part in Tuesday's ceremony for the $230 million Kalahari Resorts at Pocono Manor in Tobyhanna Township.
The first phase slated to open in 2015 is to include 457 guest rooms, a 100,000-square-foot indoor water park and seasonal outdoor water park plus a 65,000-square-foot convention center.
Later work is to add 400 more guest rooms, 100,000 more square feet to the indoor water park and 300,000 square feet of exhibit space to the resort.
Kalahari also has venues in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., and Sandusky, Ohio.
Currently Camelbeach Water Park at Camelback Mountain, the Great Wolf Lodge and Split Rock Resort & Golf Club all offer fun in the water in the Poconos.
