Organizers have decided to shift the annual Toms River Halloween Parade from Oct. 31 to the Saturday before Halloween.

The Ocean County community and neighboring communities have observed trick-or-treating on Oct. 30 for 75 years.

But organizer Carl Weingroff tells the Asbury Park Press the shift will allow more surrounding towns to participate in the parade.

Toms River officials say moving the parade to Saturdays will increase police overtime for crowd control.

This year the event will be staged on Oct. 26.

Organizers bill the parade as second in size only to the Halloween parade in New York City's Greenwich Village.
