Like mom's apple pie and nights curled up in front of a roaring fire, a hand sewn quilt evokes a feeling of home.
It's no wonder, then, that this year's Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza is challenging artists to compete in their "Take Me Home" themed quilting competition. Taking place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center from September 19 to 22, the now 20-year old festival will see America's best quilters competing for $14,000 in prizes, while attendees can vote for their favorite competition quilt to win the Viewer's Choice Award.
But the four day extravaganza isn't limited to watching top artists compete. With over 200 booths, offering everything the home quilter and sewer could dream of, there's plenty of material to get you started on your next masterpiece.
Speaking of which, every next great quilter needs some instruction. Workshops and lectures, full of fun and innovative techniques for beginners as well as for the more advanced quilt artist will be offered during the Extravaganza. Those interested in learning and developing new skills in a fun environment will benefit from taking craft courses with a faculty that reads like the who's who of international quilting, including Gloria Loughman, Robbi Joy Eklow, Marjan Kluepfel, Bobbie Bergquist, Phyllis Twigg Hatcher and many more.
Last, but certainly not least, show visitors will enjoy viewing twenty-two special exhibits of quilts, textile and wearable art. Included among these exhibits are the international and selected U.S. entries to the World Quilt Competition XVII – On Tour.
