A mother and son plan to open a 120,000-square-foot film studio in a former plastics plant in the Pittsburgh suburbs.

Cyndi and David Casteel said their Studio C Pittsburgh — in nearby Robinson Township — will open Dec. 1.

The Casteels have rounded up nearly $10 million from private investors and believe the facility will meet the standards for a "Qualified Production Facility" spelled out by the PA Film Office. That means projects which film there would qualify for an additional 5 percent tax credit.

Independent Studio Services, a business that rents props and builds sets and equipment for film, television and theater productions, will join the studio.

ISS president Gregg Bilson Jr. said, "This new facility brings a great location and every amenity to our Pennsylvania customers."
