ESPN Cans Hank Williams Jr. Over Anti-Obama Comments

Are you ready for some controversy?

ESPN took swift action in disassociating itself from Hank Williams, Jr. after the country musician compared Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler.

Williams, the voice behind ESPN’s “are you ready for some football” lead-in song to “Monday Night Football,” also referred to the president and Vice President Joe Biden as “the enemy” during a cable news appearance.

"While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize he is closely linked to our company through the opening to Monday Night Football,” ESPN said in a statement. “We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."

Williams made the controversial comments earlier Monday on Fox News' “Fox & Friends,” where he called Obama’s summer golf summit with House Speaker John Boehner “one of the biggest political mistakes ever.”

It “would be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu,” he said, The Washington Post reported.

Williams has in the past said he's considered running for U.S. Senate in Tennessee as a Republican, USA Today reports.
