Comedy Central Awards: Colbert vs. Stewart

Sunday night's Comedy Central Awards honored all that is funny and laugh-inducing, from stand-up to sketch comedy and yes, even best viral original.

The L.A. Times reported that many of the guests weren’t quite sure why the awards show was made in the first place, many seemed happy enough to accept their awards.

Bill Murray recieved a standing ovation merely for walking onstage to present the "Johnny Carson Award," EW reports.  He addressed how Carson guided America through the somewhat strange transition from the '50s to the '60s.

Tina Fey, who won Best Comedy Actress for “Date Night,” said her acting would put Dame Helen Mirren in “The Queen” to shame.

“But you know what,” Fey said, “She looks good in a bathing suit.”

Fellow “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin won Best Actor for portraying the steely Jack Donaghy, doing a spot-on impression of Tracy Morgan.

Then, Comedy Central’s own political pundits Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert grappled onstage after Stewart won for Best Late Night Comedy for the long running “Daily Show.” Colbert yanked the award from Stewart’s hand and said he was accepting the award on behalf of “every person whose soul has been crushed by Jon Stewart for the last eight years…for Bill Maher, for Jimmy Kimmel, for Jack Paar and Joey Bishop.”

Eddie Murphy won the Icon Award, accompanied by the long litany of his work.

Other big wins of the night included “South Park” for Best Animated Comedy Series, and Zach Galifianakis for his role in “Dinner for Schmucks.”

And—what else—the Bed Intruder song won for best viral original. Wonder if we’ll be seeing Rebecca Black in that category next year.
