Taylor Swift, Amanda Seyfried to Star in “Les Mis” Movie

The country darling and Hollywood starlet have reportedly been offered the ensemble musical's top female roles

Taylor Swift and Amanda Seyfried have been offered the two plum female parts in the star-studded new Hollywood version of novel-cum-Broadway musical "Les Misérables," according to reports.

Swift was offered the part of the tragic young Eponine and Seyfried the role of her happier counterpart Cosette, Broadway World reports. According to the site, neither starlet has yet signed on, but both are expected to.

Previously, Scarlett Johansson, Evan Rachel Wood and "Glee" star Lea Michele were all thought to be in contention for the Eponine role.

Most of the rest of the cast of the upcoming movie has already been nailed down, according to reports.

Broadway veteran Hugh Jackman, who just set box office records with his one-man show on the Great White Way, will take on the movie's lead role of Jean Valjean, the ex-convict intent on repaying his debts to society. Russell Crowe will play the obsessed cop who becomes his nemesis.

Eddie Redmayne will play Cosette's husband (and Eponine's love interest) Marius. Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter have been cast as the film's comic pair of crooked hoteliers.

Victor Hugo's epic novel "Les Misérables," set among France's many 19th century revolutions, became a hit musical in 1985. The ensemble show spent decades breaking records on Broadway and London's West End.

The upcoming movie is set to begin rehearsals later this month and shooting in March, with all the actors singing live on film, according to Broadway World.
