Superman Goes Fishing in First “Man of Steel” Teaser

The first "Man of Steel" teaser is nothing like you'd expect from a shameless stylist like director Zack Snyder--it's quiet, thoughtful, contemplative and very little happens. This is probably why Warner Brothers asked Christopher Nolan to serve as a producer on the film.

The clip features star Henry Cavill as a young man working as a fisherman in what one would assume is Alaska, bearded and directionless. We see moments of flashback to his childhood in Smallville, before he starts hitchhiking, presumably heading north to build the Fortress of Solitude.

There are actually two versions of the teaser, with the same visuals, but two different voice overs. In one, above, we hear the voice of Superman's biological father, Jor-El, played by Russell Crowe, telling his son he is destined for greatness.

In the other (below), we hear the voice of Superman's adoptive father, Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), telling the boy he will have to make a choice as to what kind of person he wants to be.

It's only at the very end of the teaser do we get Superman in full dress doing anything that might be termed "super," as he flies skyward.

"Man of Steel," which also co-stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne, opens June 13, 2013.
