Angelina Jolie To Star As Disney Villain Maleficent

The Oscar winning bombshell has already been fitted for her horns

Angelina Jolie will star as Maleficent, the devilish villain of Walt Disney’s 1959 "Sleeping Beauty," in a film that's set to be released in just under two years.

Walt Disney Studios announced Monday that "Maleficent" will hit theaters March 14, 2014, The Associated Press reported.

The upcoming film will be a live-action fantasy told through the eyes of the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil."

The new movie will trace the origins of Maleficent, recounting the events that prompted her to curse her goddaughter Princess Aurora in Disney’s animated classic "Sleeping Beauty."

Jolie recently told Entertainment Weekly that viewers might see more depth in Maleficent's character than they might expect.

"I hope in the end you see a woman who is capable of being many things, and just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn’t mean that she can’t have other [warmer] qualities," she said.

Jolie added that she begins filming in June. "I’ve already got my horns fitted," she said.

Production designer Robert Stromberg, a two-time Academy Award winner for "Avatar" and "Alice In Wonderland" will direct the film.
