Fox News didn't look far to replace the departing Megyn Kelly. The network announced Thursday Tucker Carlson will be replacing Kelly for its 9 p.m. timeslot which currently airs "The Kelly File."

The network also said that Martha MacCallum will move into Carlson's 7 p.m. time slot — at least temporarily. She will host a show called "The First 100 Days" to coincide with the beginning of the Trump administration.

Kelly announced Tuesday she was leaving the network for NBC News, where she will host a daytime talk show and a weekend newsmagazine, as well as contribute to breaking news coverage.

NBC News made its announcement Tuesday, ending months of speculation over whether Kelly would re-up with Fox. Her contract with Fox expires this summer. Her last show on Fox will be Friday night.

Shells of buildings, concrete slabs littering dust-choked streets and destroyed cars are all that is left of whole neighborhoods in Raqqa, Syria, after weeks of fighting and bombings between Islamic State militants and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, backed by the U.S.

Carlson has served as the host of "Tucker Carlson Tonight" on Fox since the fall and the network has been pleased with his ratings. He joined the network in 2009 as a contributor.

Prior to FNC, Carlson hosted "Tucker" on MSNBC from 2005-2008 and PBS' "Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered." He joined CNN in 2000 as its youngest anchor ever, co-hosting "The Spin Room" and went on to become co-host of CNN's "Crossfire" until its 2005 cancellation.
