‘The X-Files' Returns: Everything Old Is New Again, Including Conspiracies

Everything you thought you knew about the Fox show was a lie?

After all these years, they've reopened "The X-Files." Mulder! Scully! Skinner! Cigarette Smoking Man! Aliens! The gang reunited for the first of six all-new episodes on Sunday, Jan. 24 and everything you know about the show has been turned on its head. Sort of.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!

Here's what you need to know: Joel McHale, a longtime fan of "The X-Files," burst onto the scene as Tad O'Malley, an Internet talk show host who contacted Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) about an abductee. This abductee, Sveta (Annet Mahendru) said she's been impregnated, tested on, can read minds and has alien DNA. But it's not aliens who took her babies, it's men. Tad also took Mulder to see an alien spaceship because why not. So, the aliens aren't trying to colonize Earth, it's men. The government. They've been behind it all, using alien technology. Everything Mulder thought he knew was wrong.

But that's when Sveta changed her story and claimed Tad paid her to lie. The government got to her. As she fled town, she was destroyed by an alien ship.

And as you may recall, Mulder and Scully are no longer living together nor are they together romantically, but they still care about each other very much. Oh yeah, Sveta did have alien DNA and so does Scully.

That's when Skinner reopened "The X-Files" and brought Mulder and Scully back in. (Cue the theme music).

So, do you still believe? Are you a first-time believer? Will you return to The X-Files for the next five episodes?

"The X-Files" airs Mondays, 8 p.m. on Fox.
