"The Voice" got its top 10 contestants Tuesday when Team Shakira's Dani Moz and Team Usher's TJ Wilkins were sent packing, capping the first live eliminations round yet this season and making what could have been a terrible night for Team Shakira only a bad one.

That result gave Shakira a bittersweet reprieve, as Dani's teammate Tess Boyer -- no stranger to plenty of past "Voice" saves -- narrowly escaped possible elimination herself thanks to the "Voice" instant Twitter save.

All three had been left in the bottom three, but Tess, who had sung Bon Jovi’s “I’ll Be There for You” Monday, earned her spot in the top 10 with her performance Tuesday of Kelly Clarkson’s "Dark Side."

"That was incredible, coming from Team Usher and now on Team Shakira. I’m rooting for you,” her former coach Usher told her.

Shakira's other artist on the chopping block, Dani, had performed Adele's "Turning Tables" in her last-chance performance Tuesday, and Shakira had pleaded with viewers to save her. “Give her another chance. She can hit any note, you name it," she said.

But by the end of the five-minute Twitter voting window to save one of the three, Tess was in the lead percentage-wise. A torn Shakira, fresh off her own performance of her new hit "Empire," was happy for her but visibly sad to see Dani go.

Earlier in the night, Shakira's other team member, country singer Kristen Merlin, had gotten her own good news when she was one of the first contestants to be declared safe — just one night after her performance of Sugarland’s “Stay” was cut in half due to a dead microphone. Shakira gave Kristen credit for being able to "persevere through anything."

Team Usher's two other members were also declared safe Tuesday night, with soul singer Josh Kaufman the first contestant of the evening to get the good news and with Bria Kelly following later.

And the entirety of Team Adam, which performed Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" with their coach Tuesday, is moving on to next week's live performance. Delvin Choice, Christina Grimmie and Kat Perkins were all declared safe.

Blake Shelton’s team, which performed Travis Tritt's "Put Some Drive in Your Country" together Tuesday, is also on its way to the next round, with soulful singer Sisaundra Lewis and country artists Jake Worthington and Audra McLaughlin all voted in by viewers.

"The Voice" airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c.
