An actor was seriously hurt on the set of Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" during the show Thursday night and the performance was cancelled, a spokesman for the production said.
First responders were called to the Foxwoods Theatre on West 42nd Street shortly after 9 p.m., when a piece of equipment somehow pinned an actor's leg backstage, the FDNY said.
The actor was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Spokesman Rick Miramontez said the performance was "immediately halted" when the actor was hurt. Audience members who attended that showing will be eligible for refunds or exchanges, Miramontez said.
The $75 million stunt-filled production was plagued with accidents and injuries in its early days, but after a reboot that included new safety protocols, it has found success on Broadway.
The show's producers are readying a Las Vegas production, another in Germany and reportedly a touring show.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times published Monday, director Philip William McKinley said the days of cast injuries were behind the production.
"I don't think those are going to happen anymore. Our safety plans are higher than any other show on Broadway."
