    Miami rapper and son of Cuban parents Pitbull has released a song in response to Jay-Z's rap about his recent trip to Cuba with wife Beyonce.

    Pitbull's "Open Letter,' which comes just days after Jay-Z released a song of the same name, shows support for the Brooklyn rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and slams some of the critics of the trip.

    Pitbull released his latest single, "Back in Time," which landed on the soundtrack and is the theme song of the new Men in Black III film. "It's an honor and a blessing and a great opportunity at being involved in something like Men in Black II," he said.

    "Politicians loves to hate you/But then they runaway when it's time to debate you," Pitbull raps. "Question of the night, would they have mess with Mr. Carter if he was white?"

    Tight dresses and slick and suave suits ruled the red carpet Thursday night at the 2012 Billboard Latin Music Awards in Coral Gables. Local favorite Pitbull won only 1 of 11 awards he was nominated for, while Marc Anthony received the Billboard Hall of Fame Award. Brazilian sensation Michel Teló closed out the show. NBC 6's Roxanne Vargas reports.

    Pitbull, also known as "Mr. 305" raps about the Cuban influence in Miami: "Let's not act like half of our families ain't flipped bricks/We made Miami something from nothing/Let's not forget that we came from nothing."

    He also expresses hope for the future of Cuba: "Here's the freedom we ride for, here's the freedom that we die for/C-u-b-a hope to see you free one day."

    Pitbull, known as Mr. Worldwide and previously known as Mr. 305, will be performing on the Today Show Friday. His song, "Back In Time," will be featured in the "Men In Black III" movie.

    In his song, released days after he and Beyonce toured Havana on their fifth wedding anniversary, Jay-Z proclaims he "done tuned Havana to Atlanta," and that he and Beyonce will be "ballin' 'til they ban us."

    "Y'all must wanna start a revolution/ Whenever I'm threatened I start shooting," he continues. "Catch a body head to Houston/I'm in Cuba I love Cubans/This communist talk is so confusing, when it's from China the very mic that I'm using."

    Reuters reported that the pop music power couple had traveled to Cuba on a "cultural exchange" license from the Treasury — the only way Americans can legally travel there, in light of a 51-year-old trade embargo between the two countries.

    Several local politicians, including Sen. Marci Rubio and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, questioned the trip and why it was approved.
