Macy's has announced it will no longer do business with Donald Trump in the wake of the Republican presidential candidate's remarks concerning Mexico and immigration.

In a statement to MSNBC Macy's said they "are disappointed and distressed" by recent remarks Trump made about immigrants from Mexico, adding, "We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation. In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004."

A longstanding MoveOn.org petition asking Macy’s CEO Terry J. Lundren to end the department store's association with Trump was updated in light of his recent remarks about Mexico and has attracted more than 700,000 signatures.

Macy’s joins Univision and NBC Universal in severing business ties with the outspoken developer after he said Mexican immigrants were criminals and "rapists" at his presidential announcement on June 16th.

Trump said in a statement that it was his decision to terminate his relationship with Macy's "because of the pressure being put on them by outside sources." He accused both the department store and NBC for supporting illegal immigration.

The real estate magnate also stated he was never happy that the apparel line sold under his name at Macy's was produced in China, and should he start a new product line sometime in the future he "would insist that they are made in America."
