Kohl's Surprises ‘Chewbacca Mom' After Video Goes Viral

"Candace made the Internet's day, so we wanted to make hers," Kohl's said

Kohl's Corp. has handed a pile of "Star Wars" toys and some extra birthday joy to a Texas mom who donned a Chewbacca mask and laughed hysterically in a video that went viral last week.

Candace Payne said in the video she had bought the mask at her local Kohl's store as a gift to herself but worried her son might claim it as his own.

The video, posted on Payne's Facebook page Thursday, shows Payne laughing wildly as she wears the mask. It's been viewed hundreds of millions of times, breaking a Facebook Live record and earning Payne the nickname "Happy Chewbacca Mom."

Kohl's representatives traveled to Payne's home and gave her more masks for her kids, "Star Wars" toys and $2,500 in gift cards. They also gave her 10,000 reward points for her birthday.

"Candace made the Internet's day, so we wanted to make hers," the company — based in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin — posted on Facebook. "Chewbacca masks for the whole family (and a little extra too)!"

In the Facebook video posted by Kohl's, representatives surprise Payne and her family with the gifts. Payne's kids excitedly accept the masks and Payne is stunned by the gift cards and points.

"Candace didn't want to share her Chewbacca mask," the post read. "So we showed up to make sure she didn't have to!"

They even got one for Dad.
