Russell Crowe Addresses Critics, Gets Teased on “The Tonight Show”

Fallon brought up one of Crowe's embarrassing career moves from the past.

Russell Crowe addressed criticisms his new movie "Noah" has faced after getting teased by Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show."

Fallon asked Crowe what music he had been listening to as of late. The actor said he was into orchestral songs as well as songwriters like Skylar Grey who helped write Rihanna's hit with Eminem, "Love the Way You Lie."

However, the question was actually a complete setup.

"I'm getting into a band," Fallon said. "It's called Roman Antics."

"Oh really James," Crowe said. "Let me walk into your trap."

"This little band that was around in the '80s," Fallon said. "I'm really into, it's really cool. You've never heard of it?"

"This is going to affect our friendship."

"The lead singer looks sort of like you, I don't know," Fallon said. Then the late-night host played a clip of a music video showing Crowe as the lead singer of the band.

Crowe admitted that he has been in many bands, this one in particular was named as a play on the word 'Romantics'.

"We all got that, duh," Fallon said sarcastically.

Then, Fallon talked about his new movie "Noah," directed by Darren Aronofsky. It has been bashed by some Christian critics, claiming the film takes liberties with scripture.

"We've had to deal with twelve or fourteen months of intense criticism 'cause people made all these assumptions about what the movie would be," Crowe said. "But now people are seeing it and seeing that it's really respectful."

Fallon mentioned that the New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his wife dressed up in costumes to see the movie.

"That's very intense," Crowe said.

"You should have saw him when he went to go see 'Smurfs'," Fallon joked. "It was really embarrassing."

At the end, Crowe picked up a guitar and joined Fallon and The Roots for a rendition of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues."
