For laughs, look to comedy superstar Amy Schumer's "Trainwreck," "The Big Short," Lily Tomlin's "Grandma,"  and "Joy" from David O. Russell and Jennifer Lawrence, as well as the Matt Damon/Ridley Scott sci-fi hit "The Martian" to receive nods from the HFPA.

Smaller screen nominees in the drama category will likely include "Game of Thrones," "Outlander," "House of Cards," "Mad Men," "The Americans," "How to Get Away With Murder" and "Orphan Black," alongside 2015 newbies "Empire," "Better Call Saul," "Narcos," "Blindspot" and "Mr. Robot."

On the funny side of the TV category aisle, returning favorites "Veep," "Transparent," "Jane the Virgin," "Modern Family" and "Orange Is the New Black" will face tough competition from newcomers "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," "Scream Queens," "Master of None" and "Casual."
