Obamas Get Scoop: Twins for Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon

Couple told the President, and now you know, too

Now that the president and first lady know, we can all share in the news that Mariah Carey and hubby Nick Cannon are having twins.

Cannon confirmed on his radio show that the couple is expecting a double dose of pitter patter, and he said word got out at the White House. The preggo songbird was in the Capitol to perform at the "Christmas in Washington" TNT special,  and ran into the first couple. They asked point blank if rumors that Carey was expecting twins were true, according to People magazine.

After weeks of dodging the question, Carey just couldn't fib or play coy with the commander-in-chief.

Early Thursday, Cannon recounted on his radio show, "Rollin' With Nick Cannon," this morning to tell the story that they are expecting a pair of babies.

"At this point she hadn't told anybody because doctors advised us to keep it to ourselves until we get further along," Cannon said. "And because of the excitement, because of the emotion, she was overwhelmed [and] she shared with the President and First Lady that we are having twins."

The couple's hesitance to talk about the situation may well stem back to Carey's 2008 miscarriage, which left the couple devastated. The twins are due in the spring of 2011.
