Bag Brands Nab Big Stars to Front Ads

In celebration of the brand's 70th anniversary, and in the spirit of the star's snowballing tour of self-promotion, Coach has signed Gwyneth Paltrow as its international brand ambassador, WWD reports. Because it's for the international campaign, the Glee guest star and cookbook author will only appear in print ads abroad, including France, Spain, the UK, Portugal, and China.

The connection for Paltrow, however, was rooted in their shared New York heritage:

“I grew up in New York City and I’ve always thought of Coach as the quintessential New York brand,” Paltrow told WWD. “I’ll never forget getting my first Coach bag.”

The shots, which will drop in international glossies this September, were shot on a rooftop in Manhattan by photographer Peter Lindbergh.

In other luxury brand ambassador news, Angelina Jolie is rumored to have signed a $10-million deal to star as the next face of Louis Vuitton. Jolie, who was replaced as St. John spokesperson by model Karen Elson, succeeds Jennifer Lopez and Madonna, as well as U2 lead singer and fellow social activist Bono as ad stars for the brand.

According to reports, the ads will debut this summer, and will be shot by Annie Leibowitz. Leibowitz also shot Bono and his wife, Edun designer Ali Hewson, for Vuitton's Core Values campaign, which donated money to Al Gore's Climate Project. Given Jolie's humanitarian work, we would imagine there would be a similar charitable component to her involvement with the brand.
