Brad Pitt, Ellen DeGeneres, Steven Spielberg, T.R. Knight and Pete Wentz are among the many celebrities who have donated money to fight against California’s Proposition 8 — which, if passed, would alter the state’s constitution to define marriage as only between a man and a woman.
But why hasn’t Rosie O’Donnell, who married partner Kelli Carpenter in San Francisco in 2004, donated to the fight?

Last month, when a reader on her blog asked (in a traditional Rosie-esque style of writing), “Can u not c y some wonder y u haven’t given money 2 fight prop 8,” in the “Ask Ro” section of her Web site, the former “View” co-host simply wrote, “i do not live in california.”
Another of Rosie’s readers pressed her on the matter, asking, “true u don’t live in CA but much of the $$ FOR Prop 8 is from out of state - could use ur support.”

Rosie responded, writing, “i am quite comfortable with my choice of charitable and political donations.”

When yet another reader accused Rosie of abandoning the fight against Prop 8, she defended her choice one final time.
“I didnt run away, I walked down the stairs in san fran, I support gay marriage, i am living it,” she wrote.
