Penelope Cruz's Award Season Good Luck Charm: Pancakes!

It’s become an awards season good luck charm for Penelope Cruz – pancakes before nominations.

The tasty tradition began in 2007, when Penelope and pal Salma Hayek stayed up and ate pancakes before the Golden Globe nominations – and the star found herself nominated for Best Actress for “Volver.”

“We [had] like 15 friends, 15 of us, in one bedroom… eating pancakes,” she told Access Hollywood.

So when Access came to interview Penelope on the morning of the Academy Award nominations that year, Shaun Robinson brought Penelope pancakes – and she earned another nomination!

Access resumed the tradition on Thursday morning, as Tony Potts brought her a stack as she waited at LA’s Chateau Marmont – and notched yet another nomination, this time an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress for her role as femme fatale Maria Elena in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”

“It’s a very exciting day,” Penelope, who just flew in from Paris, told Tony. “But very confusing because I arrived so late and four hours later, I woke up and I found out the great news.”

And a lucky breakfast.
