Elisabeth Hasselbeck Sorry for “Cheap” Shot at Erin Andrews

"View" host rescinds "digs" at sportscaster's dress on "DWTS"

Elisabeth Hasselbeck never meant to be a bully, and with a little prompting from her 5-year-old daughter, she tearfully apologized for bashing Erin Andrews over her revealing costumes on "DWTS."

Hasselbeck, a host on ABC's "The View," had ripped the ESPN correspondent for wearing a skimpy outfit while earning a high score on Monday's show.  Hasselbeck even noted that Andrews was the victim in a much-publicized case last year that resulted in a prison sentence for a pervert who taped her through a hotel room peephole.

“I mean, in some way if I’m him, I’m like, ‘Man! I just could’ve waited 12 weeks and seen this — a little bit less — without the prison time!’” Hasselbeck said on Tuesday's show.

An angry Andrews fired back that Hasselbeck's shot was a "slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators." Hasselbeck's resultant guilt wasn't lost on daughter Gracie, who said, 'Mommy, why don't you just call Erin and tell her you're sorry,'  according to Hasselbeck.

It wasn't clear if Hasselbeck made the call, but she did apologize on Wednesday's show.

"I told Grace, 'Mommy feels really bad because I hurt somebody,'" Hasselbeck said. "So I took out her little devotional that we read together and I read [to] her. Mommy always [tells] you, reckless words pierce someones heart like a sword and I promised her that I would use my words more mindfully, like I try to do, to build people up, not bring them down."

Earlier this year,  Michael David Barrett admitted stalking and filming Andrews nude from a hotel door peephole. The Chicago-area insurance salesman posted videos of Andrews and other unidentified stalking victims on the internet.  Barrett was sentenced to 2  1/2 years in a federal prison on March 15.
